I was wary of booking because of some poor reviews. The hotel is a very grand 400-year-old building with a lovely lobby area and many original features including grand staircase. Mario at the reception was friendly & let me check the room before I paid. I was very happy with the huge quiet, comfortable room. Clean, huge bathroom too. wifi good to work from laptop It needs some attention in places & there is scaffolding in the central area. But I feel had a great stay, & it was huge value for money. I stayed an extra night & booked with Callum who is the early shift guy and was equally helpful. No food etc at the hotel, but a few takeaway places nearby.

Staying at this hotel felt like stepping into a beautifully preserved piece of history. The 400-year-old building exudes charm, with its delightfully crooked stairs, uniquely shaped walls, and rooms full of character. Every corner whispers stories of the past, inviting you to slow down and savour the atmosphere. It’s not just a place to sleep—it’s a place to dream. Cosy, full of soul, and far from the blandness of modern standard hotels, it offers a rare and authentic experience. The spacious parking area and excellent value for money are simply the cherries on top.

We needed a bed only for one night with very early departure and this place fitted the bill. Reception was quick and efficient. Whilst retaining the original features of the 400 year old listed building, the hotel has been tastefully refurbished. The public areas and bedrooms were very clean with tea/coffee, towels, shower gel and hairdryer all provided. One nice addition was in my room a usb charging point was also provided on a socket outlet so you only needed a cable to charge the phone/IPad. Overall much better than I expected for the price and I would use again

Such a historic establishment in a great location. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our suite was a treat, spacious with lovely bathroom and warm on a chilly night and very quiet. Parking on site was a bonus. Great exploring the nearby Georgian crescents and spectacular riverside promenade including National Trust grand residence and gardens. Good value.

Most the staff were amazing and welcoming. Over my long stay I got to know some of the staff; the housekeepers Carissa and Rita were amazing and made sure my room was topped up with the complimentary’s and kept tidy for me. Receptionist’s Ahmed and Martin were very helpful and polite. The building is amazing and historical, full of quirks which I enjoyed.
